About Me

Donna Johnson | Create Your Badge

I love photography!  Photographing weddings is my favorite . . . I guess because I'm a romantic. Every wedding I shoot is as if for the first time - it never gets old. How can one not be touched at witnessing and recording the ultimate expression of love and commitment between two people! My goal is to capture the joy, the excitement, the love . . . in a free flowing style - never obtrusive or contrived . . . and to produce images that display flair, an eye for detail, an artistic sensibility and tell a story.

Of course because I love people and their stories, I love providing a visual interpretation of them. As well as weddings, I also photograph seniors, families, pets - anything involving people!   I also do photo restoration, freelance work, and fine art photography. I have won awards for several of my images.  At the present I cover all of San Luis Obispo County and beyond.

I live in Atascadero, Ca., located on the beautiful Central Coast of California, with my husband Rex, his dog Zoe, and my boston terrier Bella.

boston terriers . . .

Since I have a boston terrier, I'm a little bit biased toward them . . . I recently had a photo shoot where the couple owned two bostons. So of course while I was there I took a few shots of them. It's funny, they are both like my Bella in that they didn't like having their picture taken. That got me thinking I would share some boston shots I've taken along the way.

And by the way, Bella has her own page on facebook now called "life with bella". She already has 27 fans!

I'll start with Yoda, the 15 year old gentleman who is deaf and as gray as a little old 80 year old man.

Sophie is 1 1/2 and full of energy, but you'd never know it here. As soon as I pointed the camera at her she started to pout.

I was recently taking pictures at Atascadero Lake. I thought I would try to take a nice photo of Bella. I've never seen a dog who dislikes having her picture taken as much as she does! It would have been a nice picture if she would have stopped pouting and squinting her eyes . . .

Is this a boston terrier thing or what? It looks like Bella and Sophie have been hanging out together.

Once in a while we can trick Bella and get a good shot . . .

She loves the beach so much she forgets I have the camera.

My friend Teri who owns Bella's sister Tinker held a Boston T Party. If you haven't been around them, they are fun, fun-loving little dogs and have the ability to bring laughter wherever they go.

Cover Girl!

The New Times is a weekly publication in San Luis Obispo, Ca. Every year they hold a photography contest they call Winning Images. Last night was the reception and unveiling of the winners. I was very happy to hear that I got 2nd place in the animals category . . . and then they announced my name as the 1st place winner of the people category . . . and then the 1st place winner of the open category. But the most exciting announcement for me was that my image would appear on the front page of the new issue!!

Carly

My daughter Carly has moved back to California from Boise, Idaho. I got to practice my portraiture skills on her. Here are a few of that are ready for uploading. She used to hate having her picture taken - obviously she learned to enjoy it. What else can you do when your mom is a photographer?

We came across this cool old building on Monterey St. in San Luis Obispo. The businesses had to move out because the building needs retrofitting.

These were taken at a winery in Templeton.

Carly got this idea from a TV show. She really doesn't know how to float - we had lots of laughs trying to get one that looked like she was floating.

Carly used to ride for years when she was growing up. We borrowed her friend Molly's beautiful dapple gray horse for this shot.

There's more to come later.
