About Me

Donna Johnson | Create Your Badge

I love photography!  Photographing weddings is my favorite . . . I guess because I'm a romantic. Every wedding I shoot is as if for the first time - it never gets old. How can one not be touched at witnessing and recording the ultimate expression of love and commitment between two people! My goal is to capture the joy, the excitement, the love . . . in a free flowing style - never obtrusive or contrived . . . and to produce images that display flair, an eye for detail, an artistic sensibility and tell a story.

Of course because I love people and their stories, I love providing a visual interpretation of them. As well as weddings, I also photograph seniors, families, pets - anything involving people!   I also do photo restoration, freelance work, and fine art photography. I have won awards for several of my images.  At the present I cover all of San Luis Obispo County and beyond.

I live in Atascadero, Ca., located on the beautiful Central Coast of California, with my husband Rex, his dog Zoe, and my boston terrier Bella.

Almost Lost It . . .

Between keeping busy taking pictures and moving from a big house to a small house (lots of decisions to make on what to keep, store, give away, etc.) I forgot that I had a trial period here a squarespace. When I tried to visit today, I found that my blogsite was closed down! Thankfully, when I signed up, it was still together and I didn't have to start over!

Sunday afternoon I (and Nathan, who came along to assist me) met with Amanda and her parents in Pismo Beach for her senior picture shoot.  She is adorable and we had a great time wandering around behind the Shelter Cove Lodge and finding the best spots with ocean views.

Major catch-up time!!

OK. I knew I would get behind sometimes . . . but not this bad so soon!

Well, last Thursday turned out to be a good day for clouds, so I jumped in my car and headed for Bitterwater Rd, off Hwy 46 E.  I was looking for wildflowers, but actually ended up finding some cool trees, and of course, great cloudy skies.

The next day, Friday, I had a photo shoot with Nicki and Jason for their maternity pictures in Pismo Beach. It was a very foggy day there, but we went for it, since they came over from Lemore especially for the pictures.  What an adorable, happy, very much in love couple! I love working with them.

Well, I'll try to play more catch-up really soon -- it's late and that's it for me tonight.

Rain and Thunder Predicted for Today

I don't love stormy days, except for the fact that they often produce great photo opportunities. So I actually looked forward to  the weather system and going out with my camera.  Well, didn't happen. Yes, we got the rain - but the sky didn't cooperate. It turned out to be one of those blah, gray, drizzley kind of rainy days.  We did have a good rainy season here in Central Ca. this year.  And I did get out there with my trusty Canon 20D.  (OK, I know it's not all about me, and I'm glad for all the rain for the farmers and ranchers and filling the reservoirs and stuff - really I am.)  But anyway, here are two shots from a couple of different systems we experienced recently:

If the skies cooperate, I'll be going out tomorrow to take pictures of wildflowers in our area. You just never know.

Was busy today doing what I like best - either taking pictures or playing with them

I worked on Justin and Di's family photos today. You try and get 6 people (including 4 boys) to all look their best in the same shot!!!  One of my issues with group shots is the "line-up" look - or just the typical grouped together look.  So I'm ever attempting new ideas.

OK, I'll share one . . .

Day Two - I haven't given up yet . . .

I haven't had time to sit down and work on this yet today. For now, I'm going to attempt to upload another photo. I shot Holly's wedding over 3 years ago - well, she's pregnant now. We went out last week for our first shoot of her at 3 months. I'm still working on them, but here is my fave so far.

Hopefully, I'll have time to work on the blog some more later today.

Well, that went smoothly. I'll go ahead and post another shot of Holly.
